If there is a moment to make your move and to take Netflix's spot on the top of streaming internet dominance, it's now -- as they continually treat their customers terribly, and shareholder confidence is super low.

Enter the cofounder of Skype, Janus Friis, and his new video service called Vdio that they're testing in the UK right now!

Skype’s cofounder has apparently been quietly assembling an A-team of media and web technology experts to launch a site that seems destined to replicate the model behind their music subscription site Rdio in the video space. The new service called Vdio, which hasn’t publicly launch yet, has been kept secret for almost two years.

That's awesome, but also like it says: secretive. So what's going on with it?

Here's a list of what things that are known:

Vdio is currently being tested with a small group of users. Vdio’s Facebook app, which is necessary to sign into the service, currently lists “200 monthly active users.”

This is all about subscriptions. Fris and Zennstrom wouldn’t align Vdio closely with Rdio if the offerings weren’t somewhat similar, and they wouldn’t secretly work on a project like this if it was just another VOD rental property. It’s possible that Vdio will offer some free content, just like Rdio does now, but the end game seems to be to compete with Netflix, and not iTunes.

Vdio is an international play. The site may launch in the U.K. first, but the company is headquartered in the U.S., with a subsidiary in Luxemburg, and it already has a SVP of global licensing. I think it’s only a question of time before Vdio launches in the U.S. as well.

This will get serious. One of the biggest lessons of Joost’s demise was that you won’t compete with the big boys if you don’t have the right content. Judging from the content that’s currently teased at Vdio.com, this could be different this time around. The movies and TV shows displayed on the site come from Warner Bros., AMC, Showtime, Sony and Fox. That’s an impressive list. Sure, Netflix has tied up the U.S. rights to shows like Mad Men, but that doesn’t mean that Vdio won’t be able to scoop them up elsewhere.

The timing couldn’t be better. Netflix has been in a crisis ever since its botched attempt to separate its DVD and streaming business, and Hulu’s future seems more uncertain than ever after a proposed sale of the company didn’t go through. Many wouldn’t have given a newcomer like Vdio a chance just six months ago. But now, everything seems up for grabs.

Boom. Competition. We love it!

Skype is a huge success -- and let's be honest, if the people behind that are behind this, we're going to see a quality attempt.

Netflix had better step up their game, because at this point they're not invincible anymore.

Chaz Bono Death is a Dead Prediction

More Chaz Bono chatter has hit the news. Recently departed from Dancing With the Stars, Chaz is now upset because the National Enquirer has reported in an upcoming issue that Chaz will die within 4 years because of some health issues that are a result of his gender change, not because of her terrible Dancing With the Stars performances. The Chaz Bono death prediction is so upset that he is threatening to sue the National Enquirer. Chaz’s attorney, Dina LaPolt, is on the case and a letter has recently been sent claiming defamation of character and also requesting that a retraction be printed as well as an apology declaring that Chaz Bono has liver damage. Chaz’s attorney also claims that this article is completely false and was written to discriminate against Chaz Bono’s gender and sexual preferences. The article is said to spell out that weight factors and testosterone supplements as well as high suicide rates among transgenders could play in an early death for Chaz Bono. Nettles had previously been been married to club owner Todd Van Sickle from 1998 until 2007.

The ceremony was a small one, which took place in Tennessee on Saturday in front of the singer's family and friends. Jennifer wore an Alexander McQueen gown, and we're sure she looked gorgeous in it!

First Look: The Hunger Games Releases A First Movie Poster

Just days before the film is destined to wow fans at 2011 San Diego Comic-Con, Lionsgate has released the first movie poster for the much-anticipated big screen adaptation of The Hunger Games. As you may recall, we spent much of the past Spring following the film’s casting … but news from Games has been pretty [...]

David and I had a free night last night and we decided to go to the movies. It was his turn to pick so he chose Horrible Bosses. To be honest, I had heard mixed things about the movie … some of my friends loved it, others notsomuch. David and I were both really curious so we were excited to see it for ourselves. While I didn’t love the movie (by any stretch of the imagination), I also didn’t hate it entirely. Despite the problems I found with the movie, I found myself laughing more times than I expected so … I guess it wasn’t so bad.

The film’s biggest problem, IMHO, is how “paint by numbers” it feels. Once you get the gist of the film in the beginning, everything happens pretty much EXACTLY the way you expect. There are no twists, no surprises … it’s very predicable. I found Jennifer Aniston the most entertaining person in Horrible Bosses. I know, surprised me, too. She’s really very naughty in this film … and, therefore, very funny. I don’t think she’s ever looked hotter in any other film. The 3 lead actors — Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day — are fine but not great. IMHO, the writing could’ve been better and Day‘s character could’ve been less annoying. I started out liking Charlie Day‘s character but as the movie progressed, he became more and more annoying … in a Gilligan from Gilligan’s Island sort of way. That being said … I did keep laughing from time to time so I guess I couldn’t say I hated the film. In the end, Horrible Bosses can be a fun … if you let it.
